About :

Beautiful circular hike to one of the most beautiful mountain lakes in Austria: deep into the Mieminger chain, over the Grünsteinscharte to the Drachensee and back over the Marienbergalm. What is your favorite mountain lake? Which lake should we definitely visit? Feel free to write your answer in the comments! Here is the tour description with GPS data: https://homeoftravel.de/wanderung-zum... We start at the Arzkasten inn on the Mieminger Plateau. There is a paid hiking car park here and a hiking map that we can use to get an overview. Today's tour is tough. We have to overcome over 1,500 meters in altitude and a distance of 19 km. To do this, we climb the first part relatively comfortably towards the Lehnberghaus. The path leads through the shady forest and along an idyllic river. Perfect for getting into it. You could then take your first break at the Lehnberghaus. We continue climbing straight on and it gets steeper. We meander through a seemingly endless field of scree up to the Grünsteinscharte. The ground is a bit slippery in places. This means we take small steps and try to carefully climb upwards. The chamois that we observe along the side of the path are much more light-footed. At the highest point of today's tour, we have already mastered the main elevation gain. The view up here is sensational. We look back, see where we climbed and can see the Ötztal Alps towering on the horizon. On the other side, we look directly at the Hinterer and Vorderer Tajakopf. We now continue in this direction. First steeply downhill and then hopefully soon with a view of the Drachsensee. The desired view is not long in coming. After a few meters of descent, we see the Drachensee in front of us for the first time. It shimmers turquoise green in the sun. A nice contrast to the rocky ground all around. In front of it is another, smaller lake. I don't know its name, though. Maybe you know it? We hike a little closer. Only from a distance can you really see how clear the water really is. And it is ice cold. The Drachensee never gets really warm even in summer, but always stays refreshing. This is probably due to the altitude. After all, the lake is at an altitude of almost 2,000 meters. A few meters above it is the Coburger Hut in a prime location. On one side you have the Drachensee at your feet, on the other side you have a view of the Seebensee, which is located lower down. And as if that wasn't enough, you can also see the Zugspitze towering up really beautifully. What a sensational view. You could also spend the night here if the tour is too long for one day. We even take a look inside and the rooms look really cozy. We move on. We leave the Coburger Hut again, hike along above the Seebensee and continue climbing to the Biberwierer Scharte. On the way there we pass a few sheep and up to here the path remains very lonely. We hardly see a soul. So we start the long, steep descent without stress. On this section, surefootedness is required again. Descending downhill through the scree is not that easy. You have to be careful not to slip and to get down safely. The upper part is the most difficult, however. It gets better further down. Then we follow a forest path. And it still goes up and down again. You would think that we would have managed the altitude at some point. But one steep climb follows the next. But we have completely new views on this side. We look down on the Fernpass and can see the Blindsee below us. A heavy rain shower that suddenly appears forces us to take a short break. Soon after, we can continue the tour and also cover the last few meters. We still have to hike to the Marienbergalm. The sun is slowly disappearing behind the surrounding mountain peaks. The hike does take some time. I hope that we can at least get a cool drink at the hut. And yes, we're lucky. I'm enjoying a shandy. I really deserve it today. From the Marienbergalm it's only about an hour back to the starting point. The path leads idyllically through the forest and along a steep ravine. You'll need to be a little free from vertigo for this last section. If you liked the video, we'd appreciate a thumbs up. And remember to subscribe so you don't miss anything in the future. Thanks for watching! :)
