Welcome to this video dedicated to sustainable mobility with public transport. In this episode we want to tell you about an engineering work that in our opinion is little known at a national level, but that definitely deserves more attention. We are talking about the Minimetrò of Perugia, a people mover, or light metro, that serves the Umbrian capital. This little jewel of transport engineering, in fact, manages to offer an excellent transport service, frequent and reliable, in a city that due to its orography, is clearly complex for the development of rail transport. Inaugurated in 2008, the line extends for 4 km from the terminus of Pian di Massiano, on the outskirts of the city, where the terrain is flatter, up to that of Pincetto, in the heart of the historic center, perched on the hill. To create this important connection, the mini pods climb up to the heights, crossing viaducts and tunnels that in our opinion are quite scenic, in particular thanks to the unique lighting chosen in the dark sections. The system is similar to a classic funicular, but with unique features regarding the mechanisms for moving the carriages in the stations. This subway offers an excellent way to get to the center without needing a private vehicle, thanks also to the enormous interchange parking lot located in Pian di Massiano. No less important, however, is the interchange with the State Railways in the Fontivegge station. In this video we decided to take you to discover the work through a traditional travel story.
