We visited the Caminhos do Mar Park, which houses the Estrada Velha de Santos and its monuments. Built in 1913, it was the first road in Latin America to be paved with cement. There are many memories that slip through the curves of this road, some of which have been transformed into works of art – and have already been listed by the Council for the Defense of Historical, Archaeological, Artistic and Tourist Heritage of the State of São Paulo, Condephaat. Such as Calçada do Lorena, built by Governor Bernardo José de Lorena from indigenous trails between 1790 and 1792, and which was the first stone-paved road between São Paulo and the Port of Cubatão to transport sugar produced in the villages of the interior. Several monuments were erected along the road in 1922 in honor of the centennial of Brazil's Independence.
