The Library System of the University of Pisa is made up of: • 15 libraries spread throughout the city, in addition to 2 branch offices in the cities of Lucca and Livorno; • A general archive, which carries out the functions of depositing and preserving administrative documents and less consulted library material; • And a documentation centre, which has the task of providing legal-administrative documentation to the central administration and peripheral structures of the University. The administrative secretariat and central coordination carry out support and organizational management functions for the activities of the structures of the library system. The libraries offer welcoming environments for study and research for: • Students • Teachers • Researchers • and technical-administrative staff. The libraries are generally open from Monday to Saturday, with continuous hours. The libraries make available a vast bibliographic-documentary heritage consisting of: • over 1.5 million volumes • thousands of subscriptions to paper and electronic journals with full-text articles; • numerous sector and multidisciplinary databases. The University Library System also manages two institutional repositories, one for electronic theses and another for the scientific research of university staff. The libraries also have a large collection of ancient, rare and valuable books, some of which have been digitized. All libraries are covered by a wifi connection and most of their resources can be conveniently accessed from home with university credentials. Rector “The University of Pisa has a large collection of bibliographic, book and documentary materials, which is essential for both research and teaching. Knowledge is transmitted through the use of historical books, but also, today, through the use of tablets, smartphones and new technologies. It is essential, however, that this knowledge is accessible to all.” In the libraries of the University of Pisa it is possible to: • consult books, magazines and multimedia material, mostly placed on open shelves; • borrow books; • photocopy and print documents; • consult online catalogues; • take advantage of training courses; • carry out internships and apprenticeships; • ask for help with your research from one of the 124 librarians on duty; • request books or articles not present in Pisa from other Italian or foreign libraries; We look forward to seeing you
