The headquarters' long-range patrol unit was attached to Separate Battalion 4 in the summer of 1943. Many of us have the image that the headquarters' long-range patrols always had to fight on their patrol trips. That was the case with me! Once, when we were in a sauna with a group of men, Knight of the Mannerheim Cross Onni Määttänen told us that on most patrol trips his patrol did not come into contact with the Russians at all. The main task of the headquarters' long-range patrols was mainly reconnaissance and they tried to avoid fighting. On a few trips, they destroyed bases or supply centers, and then men fell in the battles on both sides. In this video, I tell you about the headquarters' last long-range patrol trip to the Maaselä Isthmus in the autumn and summer of 1944. It was led by Lieutenant Mikko Pöllä and his patrol consisted of a total of eight patrolmen. At the same time, the long-range patrols of Kalle Norrgård and Sergeant Onni Määttänen were in the Kontupohja area. Norrgård's patrol returned to Finland at the end of August 1944, Määttänen's patrol on September 5, and Lieutenant Pöllä's long-range patrol on September 12, 1944. On these aforementioned patrol trips, the men did not have to fight against the Russians. The patrols monitored Red Army traffic in the area between Karhumäki and Paatene and returned to their homeland in September. There was one patrol behind them in the Uhtua direction behind the enemy, but most of the men in it were other than the headquarters' long-range patrolmen. The images shown in the video have been processed into color images using image processing programs. #long-range patrol #Pöllä #määttänen #Mannerheimristi #Norrgård #heinkel #luftwaffe #arado #Junkkers #Jauri #Voijärvi #Paatene #Kontupohja #Pieninkä #Himola #
