THE SENTINEL OF LAGAZUOI On these mountains of the Dolomites, a century ago ran the border between the Kingdom of Italy and the Austro-Hungarian Empire. The empire against which in the decades of the nineteenth century the Italians fought the wars of independence. The empire against which a hundred years ago the Great War was still fought. Even on these mountains, soldiers from the Aosta Valley were called to contribute to that last moment of independence and Italian resurgence.
