On the 27th, the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force held the Fuji Comprehensive Firepower Exercise, Japan's largest live-fire exercise, at the Higashi-Fuji Training Area in Shizuoka Prefecture. As in previous years, tanks, armored vehicles, artillery, helicopters, etc. appeared one after another, and a strategy of firing shells at the mountains was carried out, simulating a battle on a remote island. As the government is strengthening its defense capabilities with China in mind, the aim is to appeal to the usefulness of the GSDF. Defense Minister Yasuichi Hamada inspected the site. In addition to artillery units, drones and electronic warfare units also participated. The GSDF's V22 Osprey transport aircraft, the Maritime Self-Defense Force's patrol aircraft, and the Air Self-Defense Force's fighter jets also flew. The three Self-Defense Forces cooperated to confirm the procedure for eliminating enemies on a remote island. Since 2020, the exercise has been closed to the public to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus. In March of this year, in light of the current security environment, it was decided that the exercise would be closed to the public from this year's event onwards, and that it would be broadcast live via internet video, with the aim of "focusing the units on their original purpose of training personnel." Members of the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force toured the training grounds.
