Today I will tell you how in the 1840s, a huge tragedy that began with a natural disaster that deprived Ireland of its main food product, and was brought to a catastrophe by the cruel and selfish actions of the British government, unexpectedly affected the destinies of people on the other side of the globe. Many French-speaking Canadians trace their history back to the Great Potato Famine in Ireland, whose great-great-grandfathers arrived in the New World on “floating coffins”, escaping certain death. They honor the memory of their ancestors and consider themselves Irish, although they do not speak a word of Gaelic. And the Indians of the southwest, who, it would seem, have no connection with Ireland at all, unexpectedly received proof that good karma works and knows neither time nor distance, when during the years of the pandemic they got into trouble, but were not forgotten.
