This week's Conexão Repórter portrays the coronavirus crisis in Brazilian favelas. Roberto Cabrini shows the dramatic struggle for survival in places that are already suffering from a lack of everything. From inside one of the largest favelas in São Paulo, the journalist tells stories of the battle for a chance, recording that community transmission is a reality. With 100,000 residents living side by side with pockets of luxury, in the southern part of the capital of São Paulo, Paraisópolis is far from living in the paradise times that its name suggests. Viewers will follow how Covid-19 spreads and brings with it mass unemployment, with residents cornered by both the epidemic and job offers. The program has been monitoring the situation in the area for almost two months and reveals the result that has been outlined so far: 80 confirmed cases of coronavirus, 200 residents in isolation and 10 deaths. Cabrini talks to community leader Gilson Rodrigues, who brings resistance as his watchword. The journalist also shows how residents found their own solutions, the donations that arrived, the help of volunteers, the work of firefighters and even the truce of drug trafficking in the face of the situation.
