Wearing trousers is now a matter of course for men and women, old and young, on almost every occasion. But who invented trousers, when, where and why? An international team tries to answer these questions and discovers the origin of trousers and the secret of their construction in the arid Inner Asia. The camera accompanies the scientists to excavation sites in arid western China and to the workbenches of restorers, to the laboratories of paleoclimate research and animal genetics, to sheep farmers and fashion designers. You can watch the team make discoveries and experience how they overcome problems step by step as they try to reproduce the oldest known pair of trousers in the world. The film features previously unpublished footage, animations and music composed especially for this story. It is the result of a collaboration between archaeologists from the German Archaeological Institute and graduates of the Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF Film University.
