This well-dressed, polished man persistently courts the widowed innkeeper Kristýna, even though he openly despises the local people and none of the servants take kindly to him. Kristýna's son Vítek can't stand him, especially when Johan tries to throw his pet and traditional guardian of the inn - the white cat Tlapka - out of the house! Kristýna, however, seems to have no eyes for anyone else, not even her old friend Prokop. In Vítek and Kristýna's servants
