The Merendón mountain range is a mountain range located on the eastern border of Guatemala and Honduras. It runs from west to east through the departments of Zacapa and Izabal in Guatemala, and Santa Bárbara and Cortés in Honduras. The southwest side is delimited by the Lempa River, and in the north by the Motagua River. It has a great diversity of biomes and habitats, including cloud forest. The Cusuco National Park was created on the Honduran side of the mountain range to protect an area of ​​23,440 hectares of temperate forest. El Merendon Mountain is the westernmost mountain in Honduras. It is part of the Honduran-Guatemalan Mountain Group, located parallel to the border with Guatemala. The El Merendon Mountain Range extends from west to east in the Departments of Zacapa and Izabal in the Republic of Guatemala and the departments of Santa Bárbara and Cortés in Honduras. Its southwest side is delimited by the Lempa River and to the north by the Motagua River.
