Full text of the inaugural lecture: http://books.openedition.org/cdf/183 Advances in literary methods and archaeology have led to the questioning of the traditional construction of biblical chronology and historiography. Maximalists start from the idea that we must simply trust the biblical narrative. Scientifically, this position is not tenable. For minimalists, everything begins only in the Achaemenid period, around 400 BCE, or even later in the Hellenistic period. They argue that the Bible is a pure ideological construction and that the first manuscripts date precisely from this period. But the material and traditions that are at the origin of the Hebrew Bible predate the Persian era.
