The Oshu Fujiwara clan had an eerie presence as the rulers of Oshu throughout the Genpei War. They were a clan with deep ties to the Minamoto clan, who rose to dominance in Oshu after the Battle of Zenkunen and the Battle of Gosannen, in which Minamoto Yoritomo's ancestors, Minamoto Yoriyoshi and Minamoto Yoshiie, intervened, and were eventually destroyed by Minamoto Yoritomo.
