In 1864, the Vilbel wine merchant Johann Philipp Wilhelm Hinkel opened up a mineral water spring on his property and began selling the precious, natural, healthy water. 30 years later, his son Fritz gave the spring the name "Hassia", Latin for Hesse. Thanks to courage, entrepreneurial skill, foresight and perseverance, the spring business thrived against all adversities of contemporary history. Today, the traditional company is already in its fifth generation of family management: as a strong group with its headquarters in Bad Vilbel and six subsidiaries with a total of more than 1,000 employees and annual sales of over 780 million liters.
