The bombing of February 22, 1944 tore a hole in the city of Nijmegen. On the spot where three streets once ran, they wanted to build a central square after the war. It became Plein 1944. A square for the market, going out and events. From the 1960s onwards, cars increasingly took over the square; something had to be done. The car disappeared... but so did the liveliness. Film at the exhibition The Hidden World of Plein 1944 in the House of Nijmegen History following the thorough renovation of the ugliest square in the Netherlands. script and direction: Peter van der Heijden production in collaboration with Tijdlijn historical projects
