The film shows the forgotten railway line between Altenhundem (Lennetal) and Birkelbach (Edertal). Construction began before the First World War and was completed in 1914. The Ruhr-Sieg line was to be connected to the Main-Weser railway. Closed to passenger traffic in 1944. An underground relocation until the end of the war. It never went into operation and was never completed. When the Wehrmacht retreated, many bridges were blown up. After World War II, operations never resumed. Everything was dismantled. When the tunnel was built, a stream bed had to be diverted. A water bridge was built, the so-called aqueduct. Over 110 years old, it now lies hidden in the forest. A hiking trail leads there and it is an attraction on the Rothaarsteig. Information boards round off the whole thing around the Heinsberg tunnel. The tunnel is not accessible and is permanently closed. Enjoy watching. I'm always looking for old photos of the construction of the line and documents and papers. I look forward to your comments. There was an error beforehand, the Altenhundem station is unfortunately the next Kirchhundem flap. Additional information due to inquiries The floor of the tunnel was filled with concrete. Of course, trains could drive into the tunnel from the east and west. What they couldn't do was drive through. This was no longer possible because the tracks were interrupted by installations at several points for around 5 m. These gaps in the track bed are still clearly visible today.
