Of great strategic importance, Mount Lagazuoi was fortified by the Austrians together with Sasso di Stria and the Italians tried in vain to conquer it with the explosion of a powerful mine. The remains of complex defensive systems dug into the mountain and of restored shelters and trenches are still impressive today.
