Live dedicated to one of the most fascinating Gnostic manuscripts: the Gospel according to Mary. It must be said that the Mary spoken of - the text leaves no doubt - is Mary Magdalene. The text, available to us in Coptic and part of the Berlin Codex, is a crucial testimony that dates back to between the 1st and 2nd century AD. In 1938, a Greek fragment of the Gospel according to Mary was identified in the Rylands Library in Manchester by Colin Roberts. This fragment, dating back to the 2nd century, provided valuable confirmation of the existence and circulation of the text in Greek before its translation into Coptic. The Gospel according to Mary is presented as a dialogue between the resurrected Jesus and his disciples, before his ascension. Mary Magdalene plays a key role, encouraging the other disciples and sharing a mystical vision that describes the ascent of the soul through the heavens, challenging demonic powers. The Coptic text of the Berlin Codex is fragmentary. However, further Greek fragments of the text found in Oxyrhynchus indicate that the Gospel according to Mary was widespread and considered important already in the 2nd century. The presence of these fragments in multiple languages, in addition to allowing us to reconstruct it in good part, underlines the importance and diffusion of the text. The Gospel According to Mary offers a unique perspective on the diversity of early Christianity. Although it cannot be considered a historical account of post-resurrection events, it is a precious testimony to the variety of beliefs and spiritual practices of early Christianity.
