Fürstenstein towers over the Książ district in Wałbrzych, constituting its biggest tourist attraction. This extraordinary building still holds many secrets. In 1939, the Third Reich took over the castle, and the last member of the Hochberg family living here - Maria Chochberg von Pless - was forced to leave Książ. The Todt Organization began work on transforming the castle into one of Adolf Hitler's headquarters. During the reconstruction, a 40-meter-deep shaft and an underground bunker were dug. Some researchers suspect that the tunnels are connected to the nearby Riese complex and were supposed to hide a military equipment factory, a nuclear weapons research laboratory or become a treasury for the Third Reich's gold. We decided to present the history of Książ Castle from a slightly different perspective. Its secrets were revealed by Doris Stempowska, who was born in Książ in 1935 and lives here to this day. Her father worked as a trainer of riding horses and taught the prince's sons how to ride. Doris Stempowska, now 87, was honored for her work on behalf of minorities with, among other things, the Bronze Cross of Merit.
