Who were our ancestors? Where did the Slavs who initiated the history of our region come from? When did the first of them appear on the lands of today's Poland? In this episode, we will immerse ourselves in the fascinating world of theories and hypotheses that try to answer these questions. The Slavs appeared in European written sources relatively late, which meant that it was only in later centuries that they became involved in the political processes shaping the face of Europe. The adoption of Christianity was equally delayed, which for a long time allowed them to develop their own culture and civilization, independent of the dominant Western European models. For centuries, their societies were based on tribal communities, far from hierarchical state structures. Although research on the history of the Slavs has already provided many valuable discoveries, it has not yet been possible to dispel all doubts about this most numerous group of Indo-European peoples in Europe in terms of language and ethnicity.
