Faith that Defeats Giants - Pastor José Manuel Sierra. Thursday, August 31, 2023. I Samuel 17.48-58 narrates the outcome of the famous biblical episode of David and Goliath. In this part of the story, David, a young shepherd who volunteers to face the Philistine giant Goliath, approaches the battlefield with his sling and five stones. Goliath, a formidable and feared warrior, mocks David because of his weak and youthful appearance. However, David is not intimidated and declares that he comes in the name of the God of Israel. When the battle begins, David throws one of the stones with his sling, which hits Goliath in the forehead, causing him to fall. David runs towards Goliath, takes the giant's sword and beheads him. The Philistine army, seeing the defeat of their champion, flees in disarray, and the army of Israel pursues and defeats them. After the victory, Saul, the king of Israel, asks who David's father is and allows him to stay in the army. David takes Goliath's head to Jerusalem and stores his weapons in his tent. This passage emphasizes David's bravery and faith, as well as divine intervention in his victory over the giant. It also underlines how trust in God can overcome physical appearances and seemingly insurmountable odds. Faith that defeats giants.
