Sermon transcript from the second Sunday after the Nativity of the Lord 05.01.2025 based on the Gospel of John 1, 1-18 0:00 Introduction 0:33 Gospel 2:02 Sermon The Word became flesh and dwelt among us In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men; and the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it. There appeared a man sent by God - his name was John. He came as a witness, to testify to the light, so that all might believe through him. He was not the light, but was sent to testify to the light. The true light that enlightens every man, when he comes into the world, was in the world, and the world was made through Him, but the world did not know Him. He came to what was his own, but his own did not receive him. But to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave power to become children of God—born not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of a man, but of God. And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us. And we saw his glory, the glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth. John testifies about him and cries out in a loud voice, saying, “This was he of whom I said, ‘He who comes after me is more important than I am, because he was before me.’” From his fullness we have all received—grace upon grace. While the Law was given through Moses, grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. No one has ever seen God; the only begotten God, who is in the bosom of the Father, has made him known.
