At the beginning of May 2022, I decided to follow the Canal du Midi by bike for a series of reports broadcast on France 3 Occitanie. As I am recovering from a knee operation (meniscus) which prevents me from running, it is the ideal mission to perfect my rehabilitation. I offer you here a long version of this legendary route along the work of Pierre-Paul Riquet, the canal dating from the reign of Louis 14 (inauguration in 1681). From Toulouse to the Thau basin, there are 240 km of paths to cover and of uneven quality, which is what makes it so charming. From the greenway at the exit of Toulouse to the muddy and breakneck single tracks towards the end of the route, there is something for everyone. I took immense pleasure in covering this route on my Gravel, at a rate of 60 to 80 km per day. It was necessary to take your time but also to properly film the structure registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1996. If you plan to do it, you will find in this video plenty of advice and information on the route, just to pedal intelligently. To go further, here are my addresses: I was accompanied by Marianne Sagot from Vibrez montagne on the first stage: https://www.vibrezmontagne.fr I slept and ate on the Kapadokya barge at the Mediterranean lock. http://enpeniche.com/peniche-3/ I have a Gravel revolt advanced 2 (2021) https://www.vojomag.com/prise-en-main... I prepared this itinerary with Philippe Calas, author of several books on the canal by bike: https://www.canalmidi.com and also https://www.glenat.com/voyages-velo-e... Enjoy your ride and discover the masterpiece of Pierre-Paul Riquet (1609-1680) Thanks to / berengerecreas for the presentation manga drawing.
