The ancient philosophers assumed that planet Earth was formed by the interaction of four elements. Water has created extraordinary places that have always amazed and fascinated humanity. This episode shows some examples. Water is considered the primordial element from which life arose; the source of all being. Even today, two thirds of the earth's surface is covered with water. The third episode of the four-part series "The Nature Behind the Myths" uses film footage and 2D animations to illustrate the extraordinary places that the blue water has created around the world. It goes to the Palau archipelago in Micronesia, whose warm, turquoise coastal waters are home to an impressive variety of species, and to the Salar de Uyuni in Bolivia, a seemingly endless salt desert in which the sky is reflected. The cenotes in Mexico, on the other hand, are considered the largest cave system in the world: they were already revered as sacred sites by the Mayans and are still the only water reserves in the region today. International scientists and local mythtellers take viewers on a spectacular journey through ages and legends and convey a deep understanding of the creation of these magical places.
