Simon Johnson from MIT and James A. Robinson from the University of Chicago were two of the recipients of the Swedish Riksbank's prize in economic science in memory of Alfred Nobel in 2024. Here they are interviewed by Katrine Kielos. Together with Daron Acemoglu of MIT, they were praised for demonstrating the importance of social institutions to a country's prosperity. The conversation is about AI, among other things. James A. Robinson, who has done a lot of research on developing countries, talks in the interview about, among other things, that AI is not a big issue in a country like Congo where only two percent of the population has access to a computer. “Forget AI, there is no electricity,” says James A. Robinson. Simon Johnson is worried that AI development is completely controlled by American men, and that the EU's regulatory zeal means that they will not be involved and influence the development. In collaboration with the Nobel Foundation, Handelsbanken Foundations & Publishing invited to a book talk with Katrine Kielos and two of the recipients of the Swedish Riksbank's prize in economic science in memory of Alfred Nobel – Simon Johnson and James A. Robinson. The conversation started in the three laureates' latest books: Why Nations Fail (Daron Acemoglu & James A. Robinson), The Narrow Corridor (Daron Acemoglu & James A. Robinson) and Power and Progress (Daron Acemoglu & Simon Johnson). The arrangement took place in collaboration with the book publisher Volante within the framework of their upcoming book publication with the prize winners and authors. ______________________________ Do you like the video?
