Amnesty has consistently called for a thorough investigation into the 'December murders' of 8 December 1982, when 15 journalists, scientists and trade union leaders were extrajudicially executed in Fort Zeelandia, which had been used as a barracks since the military coup in Suriname in 1980. Amnesty also calls for the perpetrators to be brought to justice, now 30 years ago.
