The 21 forts of the Metaxa Line are the largest fortification project in our recent history and a great technical project which was built with the meager means of that time on the Greek-Bulgarian border because Bulgaria had refused to sign the Balkan Pact of 1934. The role and special characteristics of the forts of the Metaxas Line are discussed by the colonel e.a. and author Vasilios Nikoltsios, major Nikolaos Gribatsis and emeritus professor of NTUA Theodosis Tassios.
