Prof. Dr. Dirk Helbing, ETH Zurich We are in the midst of the digital revolution. Suddenly there is cloud computing, big data, artificial intelligence, cognitive computing, robotics, 3D printing, the Internet of Things, blockchain technology, virtual reality and much more. Each of these technologies has the potential to revolutionize products and services, business models and entire industries. Together they create the perfect storm. The financial system, the economy, political institutions and society will also be thrown into disarray. The world is now so interconnected that some already consider humanity to be a multicellular organism. But does this organism need a central nervous system, a global brain that controls the fate of humanity by controlling behavior and society? Should an AI god control our fate? Or is a decentralized coordination system that generates collective intelligence even better than superintelligence? These are some of the questions that will be addressed in this lecture.
