The discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls is considered one of the most important archaeological finds of the 20th century. Written at the turn of the era, these texts contain the Old Testament (Hebrew Bible), apocryphal literature, and other texts describing what Judaism was like in 1st century Jerusalem. Found in the Qumran cave in Israel, the Dead Sea Scrolls have sparked controversy surrounding the Judeo-Christian Old Testament. A team of archaeologists discovered a series of papyri written in Aramaic, Greek, and Hebrew. When they were uncovered, they realized that they contained never-before-seen information about biblical passages and about other religions that developed in ancient times in the region.
