The day I first came across the fairy tale book 『The Little Mermaid』, I met a new world. After that, I read everything I could, including Eastern and Western literary collections and even folk tales, and the villagers praised me, saying that I would probably study abroad. I graduated from the Department of Korean Education at Catholic Kwandong University. I wrote my first short story, a 70-page manuscript, in the fifth grade of elementary school and read it to a friend. If my friend hadn’t said it was interesting, I probably wouldn’t have written a novel. The day before my wedding with a man I met in college, I wondered what I would do in Pyeongchang. I said, “Okay, let’s live while writing,” but it wasn’t easy. I always said that while helping my children with their homework. “I will debut as a novelist before I turn 40.” I hoped that my words would become seeds. I went to the nearby Lee Hyo-seok Literature Festival under the pretext of my child’s life drawing contest, and when my roughly written prose was selected, my throat tingled. After winning the grand prize at the Kim Yu-jeong National Literary Contest (2002), I wrote a short story and submitted it to the New Year’s Literary Contest. That was the final round, and I was surprised and gained confidence. In 2006, the short story "Pythagorean Triangle" was selected for the literary era, and after two and a half years of serialization, my first full-length novel, "Bangteogol Ararei" was published. I was intoxicated by my debut for 10 years. I suddenly came to my senses and published the short story collections "Somae Gaksi" and "Going to Las Vegas", but I had no presence. I applied for the Hyun Jin-geon Literary Award and won the Hyun Jin-geon Literary Award Excellence Award (2017) for the short story "Jecheon". This award seemed to give me a little hope, but I quickly went dark again. I was happy to create a short story collection, "When Buckwheat Flowers Fall", which is a sequel to "When Buckwheat Flowers Bloom", with my favorite authors. I won the Korean Literary Association Writer's Award (2020) for the full-length novel "Tan" and was selected for the Sejong Liberal Arts Literary Book (2020). That seemed to make the road seem a little longer, but it's getting dark again. So I climb the mountain whenever I have time. Stamina is essential for long distances.
