In this video I will tell you about one of the darkest hospitals in the territory of modern Ukraine – this is the Kharkov psychiatric hospital, which many of the city residents know as Saburova dacha, saburka or pyatashka. The hospital buildings look very scary, crumbling walls, broken windows, trees growing right on the roofs, and the indistinct cries of the insane, which sound from the windows covered with bars, and the old dilapidated buildings themselves look very creepy even on a sunny summer day. But not every Kharkov resident knows that in the past this building was a luxurious governor's estate, the center of the Bolshevik underground and one of the world centers for the study of psychiatry. Let's start in order, the first buildings on the territory of the medical complex were built more than 220 years ago, in 1798, it was built as a country estate of the governor of Catherine II in Slobozhanshchina, Governor Peter Saburov, according to legend, one of his daughters suffered from mental disorders, and a very quiet place was chosen for the estate far from the city. And after his death, Saburov bequeathed his estate for a city hospital, and since 1810 they began to treat patients here, while the hospital was not specialized, everyone was treated here, but already in 1820 the Kharkov mental hospital was moved here, which had been operating in the city since 1796, at first the mental hospital occupied only one of the outbuildings that were located on both sides of the central building. , but by 1897 the entire hospital had become a mental hospital, there were already 1100 patients here, much more than in any other mental hospital in the Russian Empire
