The believer who wants to ascend to the most honorable stations in the Hereafter cannot ascend except with the help and guidance of Allah. The one who prays every day says in his prayer, “You alone do we worship, and You alone do we ask for help.” However, many people do not understand anything about seeking help from Allah, and that it is necessary and important in the life of the believer. He will not be able to accomplish any of his religious or worldly deeds except with the guidance, assistance, facilitation, and ease of Allah for him. A moment of contemplation: Allah the Almighty said, “You alone do we worship, and You alone do we ask for help.” Sheikh Al-Saadi, may Allah have mercy on him, said: That is, we single out You alone for worship and seeking help. It is as if He is saying: We worship You, and we do not worship anyone other than You, and we seek help from You, and we do not seek help from anyone other than You. And worship is a comprehensive name for everything that Allah loves and is pleased with from deeds and words, both apparent and hidden. Seeking help: is relying on Allah the Almighty to bring benefits and ward off harm, while trusting in Him to achieve that. Performing the worship of Allah and seeking His help is the means to eternal happiness and salvation from all evils. There is no way to salvation except by performing them. When is an act of worship considered an act of worship? Worship is only an act of worship if it is taken from the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) and is intended for the sake of Allah. With these two matters, it becomes an act of worship. Seeking help was mentioned after worship, although it is included in it, because the servant needs to seek help from Allah the Almighty in all his acts of worship. If Allah does not help him, he will not get what he wants of doing the commands and avoiding the prohibitions. Al-Hafiz Ibn Rajab (may Allah have mercy on him) said: As for seeking help from Allah the Almighty and not from any other creation, it is because the servant is unable to independently bring about his own interests and ward off harm, and he has no helper in the interests of his religion and his worldly life except Allah the Almighty. Whoever Allah helps is the one who is helped, and whoever He lets down is the one who is let down. This is the realization of the meaning of the saying: (There is no power nor strength except with Allah), for the meaning is: The servant has no change from one state to another, and he has no power over that except with Allah. This is a great statement, and it is a treasure from the treasures of Paradise. The servant is in need of seeking Allah’s help in: 1- Doing what is commanded. 2- Leaving what is forbidden. 3- And being patient with all that is decreed in this world and at death and after it from the terrors of the Barzakh and on the Day of Resurrection. No one is able to provide assistance in that except Allah, the Almighty, the Majestic. So whoever seeks assistance in all of that, Allah will help him. The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: [Be keen on what benefits you and seek help from Allah and do not be helpless.] Narrated by Muslim. Whoever abandons seeking help from Allah and seeks help from someone other than Him, Allah will leave him to the one he sought help from, so he will be let down. Al-Hasan wrote to Umar ibn al-Aziz: Do not seek help from anyone other than Allah, or Allah will leave you to Him. Some of the salaf said: “O Lord, I am amazed at the one who knows You and how he hopes in other than You. I am amazed at the one who knows You and how he seeks help from other than You.” End quote. Categories of people in worship and seeking help: Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allah have mercy on him) said: The categories of people in worship and seeking help are four: 1) People who worship and seek help from Allah.. so worshipping Allah is their ultimate goal and asking Him to help them in it and grant them success in doing it. 2) Those who do not worship or seek help.. even if they seek help from Him and ask Him, it is for their own fortunes and desires, not for the pleasure of their Lord and His rights. 3) Those who have a type of worship without seeking help.. so their share of trust and seeking help from Him is deficient. And they will be let down, weak and helpless according to the lack of their help and trust. He who seeks help without worship... is he who witnesses that God alone is capable of benefit and harm, and does not walk and conform to what God loves and is pleased with, so he relies on Him and seeks His help in his fortunes, desires, and purposes and requests them from Him, whether they are money or leadership... but there is no consequence for him.
