Lost among the mountains of the State of Veracruz, a ravine called La Aurora opens up like an enormous gorge. A semicircular precipice 300 meters deep that frightens anyone who dares to look down, where green and lush vegetation covers everything. A little further down, an underground lake runs beneath the hills. It is an almost inaccessible natural paradise that in January 2016 came to light for its most vile use: it had been used as a clandestine grave. Just 12 minutes from this ravine is the state police academy, now under investigation. The theory of the State Prosecutor's Office, which has just managed for the first time to bring to trial the former governor Javier Duarte for a case of forced disappearance, of the police officer David Lara, is that that corner lost in nature was a kind of "dump" where the bodies of people who were detained by the authorities, taken to the police academy, tortured and disappeared were hidden.
