If your eye is single, your whole body is also full of light; but if your eye is bad, your body also is full of darkness. 35 See therefore that the light that is in you is not darkness. 36 If then your whole body is full of light, having no part dark, the whole body will be full of light, just as when a lamp shines on you.” 37 While he was speaking, a Pharisee invited him to dine with him. So he went in and sat down to eat. 38 When the Pharisee saw this, he marveled that he had not washed before eating. 39 The Lord said to him, “You Pharisees clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but inside you are full of extortion and wickedness. 40 You foolish people! Did not he who made the outside also make the inside? 41 But give alms of what is inside the platter, and everything will be clean for you. 42 But woe to you, Pharisees! For you tithe mint and rue and every kind of garden herb, and have neglected justice and the love of God. These you ought to have done, without leaving the others undone. 43 Woe to you, Pharisees! For you love the best seats in the synagogues and greetings in the marketplaces. 44 Woe to you, for you are like unmarked tombs, and those who walk on them know nothing about them. 45 Then one of the lawyers answered and said to him, “Teacher, by saying this you insult us also.” 46 And he said to them, “Woe also to you, lawyers! For you load people with burdens that are hard to bear, yet you yourselves do not touch the burdens with one of your fingers. 47 Woe to you, for you build the tombs of the prophets, yet your fathers killed them.
