The Council of State is one of the oldest institutions in the world. What role does it play in our current democratic constitutional state and how important is it? In a new episode of Het Kamergesprek we will discuss all the ins and outs of this important organisation. The Council of State houses two tasks under one roof: advising and administering justice. The Council itself consists of a maximum of ten members, but there are also members who are 'in extraordinary service' and advise the government and parliament. King Willem-Alexander is chairman of the Council of State and Crown Princess Amalia is also a member. Why? We will tell you in episode 22. We will also answer questions such as: what roles does the Council of State have in relation to the First and Second Chambers and the government? How are advices prepared? And what do they look like? But also: what is it like to be a 'council of state', what do parliamentarians do with the advice and how does journalism deal with it? Presenter Kemal Rijken discusses this with four experts: State Councillor Kees van der Staaij, historian Shashi Roopram, parliamentary journalist Remco Meijer and former Member of Parliament Keklik Yücel.
