The loss of someone we love causes a state of intense sadness, introspection and a sense of loss. This is grief. As with all mental states, the brain also plays a central role in this intense set of emotions that affect us during periods of deep pain. From a personal point of view, this is what my family and I have been experiencing for the past month, since the unexpected and painful loss of my father. In this video, we discuss some of the main aspects of grief from the perspective of affective neuroscience and seek to describe some of the neural phenomena that occur after a great loss. In addition, we point out, based on neuroscience, some strategies to get through this moment as serenely as possible. This video is also part of a personal way of going through this process. At the end of it, Gratitude, Longing and Legacy. This is what will remain.
