Giovanni dalle Bande Nere, a famous Renaissance leader, died on November 30, 1526 at the age of just 28. During a battle near Governolo, on the Mincio, against the Landsknecht troops marching toward Rome, he was hit in the right leg by a falconet ball, a light artillery shot. The wound, initially curable, worsened due to a poorly executed amputation, probably performed in precarious conditions. The resulting infection quickly led to his death. His passing marked a moment of mourning and disorientation for the Medici and for Italy, depriving it of one of its most feared and respected leaders.
