Bishops such as Monsignor Yaouda Hourgo, Monsignor Samuel Kleda, and Monsignor Emmanuel Abbo vehemently denounce the misery, injustice, and immobility of the regime, going so far as to shake consciences with shocking words. But the Church itself is divided, with some priests preaching submission and divine providence, while others set themselves up as defenders of the people.
