Especially with Richard Donner's 1978 Superman adaptation, superhero movies took on a serious format, and in 1989, with Tim Burton's Batman, it was proven that they could become works of art. Although they spent the 90s in a ridiculous drought, the momentum gained with Bryan Singer's X-Men adaptation in 2000 officially started the golden age of superhero movies. The once despised and snubbed concept has become the most important cinematic monster determining the box office of the popular cinema arena in the new millennium.
