The island of La Palma has an area of 708.32 km² (9.45% of the Canary Islands). Its territory is very rugged and reaches 2,426 m at Roque de los Muchachos, the highest point on the island, making it, after Tenerife, the second highest island in the Canary Islands. In the northern third of La Palma there is a large depression of erosive origin that forms the Caldera de Taburiente, declared a national park in 1954. Its beaches are of black volcanic sand, and it is also a volcanically active island where past eruptions have shaped the landscape giving rise to wild, paradisiacal beaches like those shown in the video.
