Cartagena de Indias, Colombia, is known as “The stone corralito”, “The heroic” and “The fantastic”. Cartagena is one of the most visited cities in Colombia and it mixes the architecture of the time of Spanish colonization with the modernity of its large and new buildings. In position No. 10 we have the beaches of Cartagena. Check the current prices well before hiring this rental, because many times local vendors take advantage of tourists and charge them extra costs. Also, you must be patient, because in Cartagena the vendors are very insistent and you must be prepared to say NO. When going to the beach, I recommend 3 things you should not forget: 1) Take good care of your belongings. Never leave them alone; 2) Be careful with oyster sellers. They offer you one, supposedly as a test, and then charge you astronomical prices for it; and 3) Be careful with masseuses. When you arrive in Cartagena you will see a mountain with a church on top. It will be very easy to see it from various points in the city. The Convento de la Popa is a church from the colonial era, built by the Augustinian Recollects. The view of Cartagena from La Popa is spectacular and the entrance fee to the convent is $13,000 Colombian pesos (approximately 3 dollars). In position No. 8 we have FRITOMAR. A gem that not everyone knows about in Cartagena. It is called Fritomar and it is a small restaurant where you will find the greatest delights of coastal cuisine: empanadas, carimañolas, arepa 'e huevo, quibbe, deditos de queso, etc. In position No. 7 we find the Bay of Castillogrande. Castillogrande is the most expensive residential neighborhood in Cartagena. In it you will find beautiful houses, as well as modern buildings facing the bay. When I was working on my list for the top 10 I noticed that this bar is the most outstanding according to the TripAdvisor platform and I decided to visit it. The place has a nice atmosphere and what I liked the most was the service. In position No. 5 we find the Getsemaní neighborhood. Getsemaní is the most fun and colorful neighborhood in Cartagena. A few years ago this was a common neighborhood in the city, but lately, it is the most iconic and visited neighborhood. Its streets are full of colors, images, street art and graffiti and, in it, you can find many restaurants, bars and especially hostels for foreign tourists. In position No. 4 we have the ALQUIMICO disco bar. It is not by luck that this bar is on the list of the 50 best bars in the world and that is already an interesting aspect to highlight. Its rooftop is a very interesting place and there you will have the opportunity to meet people from all over the world, enjoying cocktails at a very good price and good quality food. In position No. 3 we find the Rosario and Barú Islands. These paradisiacal beaches are located a few minutes from Cartagena. The Rosario Islands are an archipelago made up of 28 islands. To get to the islands, you must do so by boat or ship from the tourist dock in Cartagena. The journey will depend on the boat you travel on. In position No. 2 we have the San Felipe de Barajas Castle. Built in 1657, during the Spanish colonial era, it is one of the most important forts of that era.
