On August 29, 1526, Europe was shaking again: 73 years after the fall of Constantinople, the Ottomans took another giant step towards the heart of the continent, crushing the army of one of the most important states of the time, the Kingdom of Hungary, on the plain of Mohacs. The battle of Mohacs is one of annihilation. Most of the kingdom's elite falls on the battlefield, and in the evening of the same day, the young King Louis also drowns, leading to an unprecedented power vacuum. On this fateful day, the kingdom effectively disappears from the world map. The event is of crucial importance in the history of the eastern half of Europe. For 150 years from now, the Turks will dominate the area without any counterbalance. Hungary is divided between the Habsburg Empire and the Ottoman Empire. Transylvania becomes a relatively independent period, under Ottoman suzerainty, and the Transylvanian voivodes begin to dispute with the Habsburgs the right to inherit the Hungarian crown. An immediate consequence of this victory is that the Ottoman sultan Suleiman the Magnificent will attack Vienna, which he will besiege 6 years later, in 1532. It is the moment of maximum expansion of the Turks. The Romanian countries outside the Carpathians are also seriously affected, because by changing the balance of power in the area, there is no one left to keep the ambitions of the Ottomans in check. The whole story of this famous battle, in episode 23 of the "History Collector" podcast! We make these shows with pleasure and passion, we believe that history is the most beautiful of the stories of mankind and we try to bring it closer to the public without vulgarizing it. The less pleasant part is that making these videos involves costs, effort, work, documentation, a lot of time. Although it may not be so obvious, they cannot work out of nothing.
