The Battle of Badr (Arabic: غذرحﺓ ﺑﺪﺭ ) was a battle that took place on Saturday, March 13, 624 CE (CD = After Jesus) corresponding to 17 Ramadan in the 2nd year of the Hijra. Islam; the battle took place in parts of the Hejaz region (present-day Saudi Arabia). The battle was fought between Islamic forces from the Islamic capital of Medina led by the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and an army from Mecca led by the Quraysh chieftains who opposed Islam. The Battle of Badr was the first direct battle between the Meccan infidels and the Muslims who had fled to Medina.
