Colegio map brings us a new masterclass (Bass in Cuban Music and Latin Jazz), by the legend of Latin music, Alain Pérez, where we will learn his story as a professional musician, his beginnings and the challenges he had to overcome to reach the heights of the music industry. We will also learn about Cuban music, its structures and rhythms, with group exercises and performances by the school's teachers. Few musicians have been at the heart of the sound of artists such as Chucho Valdés, Celia Cruz, Issac Delgado, Los Van Van and Paco de Lucía, and Alain Pérez is one of them. He was born in Cuba in 1977 and became a prominent bassist, singer, composer, arranger and music producer. At the age of eleven, he began studying at the Cienfuegos Conservatory. In 1993 he traveled to Havana, where he graduated in guitar, bass and choral direction. At that time, the redefinition of modern Cuban salsa, better known as timba, was taking place. Along the way, he changed instruments, becoming bassist and musical director of Isaac Delgado's group. Later, he participated in the concerts of the great Cuban orchestra Team Cuba; a combination of the most outstanding bands on the island: Los Van Van, NG La Banda, Isaac Delgado and Adalberto Álvarez. Some time later, he moved to Madrid. At the beginning of the 21st century, the rhythm of that city changed. Cubans and flamenco artists understood each other and practiced a common language beyond jazz, son and bulerías. Alain had put together Celia Cruz's European band and his legend grew in jazz clubs. In 2002, flamenco artist Enrique Morente called him to carry the rhythmic pulse of the “África-Cuba-Cai” project.
