I am Emanuele and I am mainly a portrait photographer. Today we are going to see the basics of photography in just 10 minutes. 10 minutes and you will be able to shoot in manual. Remember though that to become a good photographer you will need much more time, commitment and effort. Let's set our camera in manual and as a first step we set the ISO sensitivity. ISO is the sensitivity of your camera to light. The higher the number, the more sensitive the sensor will be to light. The lower the number, the less sensitive the sensor will be to light. The higher the ISO, the more digital noise, grain, there will be in your image. The next step is the aperture. You can also see it physically, the lenses have this membrane inside them that can open and close to create a small or large hole through which the light will pass. Now this may seem a little strange because the smaller the number, the larger the aperture and the more light will enter. The smaller the number, the smaller the hole and the less light will enter. The lower the number, the more light enters, the smaller the number the less light enters but, the aperture also controls the planes of focus. Basically how much is in focus what is before and after the point of focus. And here it becomes easy to know that the lower the f stop, the smaller the depth of field. The higher the number, the greater the depth of field. This factor you will see in the form of f/stops. The last step is the shutter speed. Shutter speed is the amount of time, measured in seconds, that the shutter is open. Shutter speed also controls motion blur, from a lot of blur to completely frozen moving subjects in the photo. A slow shutter speed, more motion blur. A fast shutter speed, less motion blur. So, the first thing I do when I have to take a shot is set the ISO sensitivity. Basically I see the situation I'm in, if I'm outside with a lot of light, I'll bring the ISO as low as possible, 200 or 100. Secondly, based on the subject I have, I'll decide which focus plane I want to use depending on whether it's a single subject or two people or a group of people. I'll then adjust the aperture based on this. Thirdly, I'll choose if I want motion blur in my image or not. I'll then adjust my shutter speed based on this.
