Lau Patrón likes to present herself as an atypical mother of a rare boy: João Vicente has a very rare autoimmune disease and suffered a stroke at almost two years of age, as a result of the disease. Lau is one of the references when it comes to ableism - the prejudice against people with disabilities, and believes: “we have to change our point of view, understand that the world is deficient and disables human bodies that do not fit within their limits, small , too cramped and arrogant.” Lau Patron is half Brazilian, half Uruguayan. She worked as an audio-visual producer, is a writer, activist and inclusion professional. She is the mother of João Vicente, a smiling boy with a very rare autoimmune syndrome. Godmother of the international NGO Best Buddies, author of the book 71 Leões. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format, but independently organized by a local community.
