About :

In 1986, Verena and Markus Senn from the Zurich Oberland moved with six children to a remote alpine pasture in Ticino. In 2018, we accompanied the difficult search for a successor with our cameras. A lot has happened since then. An unexpected stroke of fate pushed the alpine dreamers to their limits. _____________________________________________ 🔔 Subscribe to SRF Dok now on YouTube https://www.youtube.com/srfdok?sub_co... 👉 Would you like to suggest a topic to us? They told us their Alp-dreamer story, which began in 1968 when, as a young couple, they decided to say goodbye to commerce and to break away from social conventions. They wanted to put their vision of a self-sufficient and simple life into practice somewhere in the mountains. After a long search, they and their six children found a piece of land in Ticino in the 1980s that they could buy. Over the years, the farm grew bigger and bigger. Many things did not go according to plan and some things got out of hand. In 2017, when Verena and Markus Senn had reached AHV age, their concern about the farm's succession grew. The children were long grown up and almost all of them lived in the valley again. Only Sämi, the third youngest son, was an option. He had stayed on the farm. But his hesitation irritated and depressed his parents. The 42-year-old wants to start a family, but finding a partner who is willing to lend a hand and live on a remote alpine farm has proven difficult. In 2023 we will visit the Senns again at Munt la Reita. In the meantime, an unexpected stroke of fate has struck the family. This difficult trial has brought everyone even closer together. After a depressing time with an uncertain future, there are also rays of hope again at Munt la Raita. Sämi has fallen in love and decided to continue his parents' alpine dreamer story in his own way. ▪ A film by Martina Egi ▪ Camera: Björn Lindroos ▪ Editing: Michael Severin, Thomas Enz ▪ Production by Mesch & Ugge AG Iris Kappeler ▪ Director SRF: Nathalie Rufer _____________________________________________ This is «DOK»: Our in-depth documentaries on topics from society, nature, politics, sport and business.
