In the Harz foothills, Johannes Bercht is stressed out harvesting grain. Because rain is threatening, everything on the Bercht organic farm has to be done in one day: pressing straw, covering the silo, threshing and bringing in grain. The problem is that storage capacity in the ancient barn is limited and more than 100 tons of barley have to be stored. And the cows also need to be looked after. Johannes Bercht hardly knows what to do. At the Kriseby stud farm in Schleswig-Holstein, Wulf-Heiner Kummetz is also racing against time. Rain has also been forecast here, so the boss has to hurry to harvest the horse feed for the winter. He first has to use the double swather to arrange the mown hay in even rows. These so-called swaths are then processed further by the baler. Wulf-Heiner Kummetz does everything himself. The pressure is great because the hay is the livelihood of more than 70 animals. And the dark clouds are getting closer and closer. In Hamburg-Altengamme, gardener Jens Wöbb enjoys his sea of flowers. He has grown 40 different types of flowers on three hectares. He also harvests herbs such as coriander, camomile and yarrow for his bouquets. These serve as binding greenery and, like gypsophila, are used to fill out the bouquets. The herbs also smell lovely. But this scent also attracts insects. For Jens Wöbb, this has painful consequences. The vetch rye harvest is underway on the farm in Sophienhof near Neustrelitz. Vetch and rye are an ideal mixture. The vetch binds nitrogen from the air to the roots and adds protein to the feed. The rye provides energy. Special measures are only required during the harvest. In order to be able to cut the mixture of rye and vetch properly, farmer Karsten Dudziak has to attach additional blades to the mower. The shredder also has to drive relatively slowly so that the hairy vetch does not clog the transport rollers. ________________________________________________ Our guidelines for comments: https://www.ndr.de/service/technische... #ndr #ndraufmland #hofgeschichten
