A sense of humor, including dark humor, is probably a basic prerequisite for survival in the medical world, let alone the work of a country doctor who never knows when, where and for what he will be called and who will enter his office. During his twenty-five years of practice, the author collected true stories describing funny, eccentric, terrifying and tragic events that happen to every doctor, but which seemed destined for him. They took place mainly in the British countryside, but partly also in exotic surroundings. The author of the book, Michael Sparrow, was born in 1957 in central England. After graduation and a year's work at an accounting firm, he studied in the years 1977-1981 at the Faculty of Medicine at St. Mary's Hospital in Paddington. After a year's hospital practice and six years spent with the Royal Air Force, he landed in Devon as a general practitioner. He also worked in South Africa, Belize, Kosovo and Ethiopia.
